Monday 28 May 2018   We visited Nudgee and other than a little rain it was a most enjoyable day. The course was in top condition and hence a very good test for all golfers.  We had a very good field of 142 and not many complaints were received. Interestingly next week we go to Woodford – one of the best courses we go to and numbers are down – please tell me why. We will soon be starting to compile 2019 fixtures should I be asking for members assistance. Our Nudgee winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Dave Foster (Pacific),  “B” Grade  –  Dennis Krafft  (Pacific)  and  “C” Grade  –  Caji DeSouza  (Virginia),

NEXT GAMES:  Woodford – 4 June 2018,  McLeod – 11 June 2018,  Wynnum – 18 June 2018

Monday 30 April 2018  We were at Virginia and enjoyed a good day, the course was in “good nic” and the weather was near perfect. Virginia is one of the Clubs that have got the “food system”  very suitable for golfers and hence “members” are happy.  We had a good field of 137 players and the winners were:-  “A” grade  –  Bob Ellsworth-Turner (Oxley,   “B” Grade  –  Jim Stanley  (Redland Bay)  and  “C” Grade  –  Warren Tealby  (Keperra).  At golf today i had representatives from 6 different groups nominating their fours  – I wondered – what would happen if I picked groups at random – would anyone turn up.  Surely the enjoyment is to play different courses and meet new golfing friends!!  Next game is on 14 May 2018 at Gainsborough Greens – Register at 7:45 a.m. – Please be on time – I don’t want a cold lunch.

Monday 23 April 2018  We visited Caboolture and had a very enjoyable day although it would have been nice to have had a few more players – surely we can get a few more than a 112.players. We are also having a return to the “bad old days” – my mate is not playing – I won’t bother turning up. Please think of everyone – the majority want to play in groups of 4 (FOUR). The winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Bruce Mutch (Virginia),  “B” Grade  –  Frank Horrell (Pacific)  and “C” Grade  –  John Crandell (Ashgrove)

Monday 16 April 2018  We paid a visit to Hills International and it proved to be an enjoyable day. We had a field of 94 and due to a miscalculation by the Captain – most players won a golf ball. We move to the North side for the next 2 games and hopefully our numbers won.t drop too much. Monday’s winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Dale Kurz (Nudgee),  “B” Grade  –  Laurie Parr  (Pacific),  “C” Grade – Vic Jones (Karana Downs. Congratulatios to Peter Cook who eagles the 1st Hole.

Monday 9 April 2018  We had our first visit of the year to Bribie Island (Old Course) and what a great day it was, the weather was great, the course is one of the best we play and the Clubhouse is very hard to leave. It is hard to believe we have members that don’t visit these courses. We had a good field of 125 players and the winners were: “A” Grade – Roy Nerichow (Bribie),  “B” Grade – John Comerford  (Gailes)  and  “C” Grade  –  Peter Shipp  Bribie).  We will be back in July at this great course – so don’t miss out!!!!

NEXT GAMES:  Hills International – 16 April 2018, Caboolture – 23 April 2018,  Virginia  –  30 April 2018

Monday 26 March 2018  We had our first visit of the year to Keperra and we were lucky that the weather cleared up and the day was fairly successful. We had a field of 123 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Jack Wilson (Keperra),  “B” Grade  –  Paddy Johnston  (Nudgee)  &  “C” Grade – Ross Shields  (Nudgee

Monday 19 March 2018   We had our annual trip to Middle Ridge and what a great day it was – an absolute mystery as to why we don’t have double the numbers. If we don’t support these venues we will end up losing our great range of courses and end up just being a local club and that won’t work.  Our third largest club were not even represented – very disappointing.  Middle Ridge is now back to what it used to be – “one of Queensland’s Premier Courses.  We had a field of 54 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Paul Hine (Pacific)  and “B” Grade  –  Ian McGilvray  (Wynnum)

NEXT GAMES:  Keperra  –  26 March 2018,  Bribie Island  –  9 April 2018,  Hills International – 16 April 2018,

Monday 12 March 2018  We had a big day, we visited Pacific and also, at the completion of play, had our AGM..  All have been re-elected hence a sign that we have a contented membership.  The weather for golf was a little doubtful early however in the end it was a good day enjoyed by all.  We had a good field of 124 and the winners were:- “A” Grade – Noel Timmins  (Carbrook),  “B” Grade  –  Graham Mouatt  (Redland Bay)  and  “C” Grade  –  Trevor Browne  (Redland Bay)

Monday  5 March 2018  We had a most enjoyable trip to “The Glades” and, despite all the advise given, we had a brief shower and everyone appeared to enjoy themselves thoroughly. The course was, as usual, a stern test and not conquered by many. Disappointing again that a few did not even turn up and hence it is hard to run events like this.. We had a field of 118 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Des Beinke (Hope Island),  “B” Grade  –  Dave Elliott  (Nudgee)  and “C” Grade  Des James  (Pacific)

Monday 26 February 2018   We had a visit to Redcliffe and although the weather was hot and humid, the course was in top condition and we had a reasonable field of 114  –  still a few drop outs at the last minute.  1 tee start always highlights a problem – the first group finished around 4 hours – some of the later groups were around 5 – 1/2 hours.  The winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Trevor Grant (Ashgrove),  “B” Grade  –  Les Apolloni (Redland Bay)  and  “C” Grade  – John Gallagher  (Pacific).  Next Weeks Game is at The Glades – Please be there at 7:45 to register

Monday 19 February 2018  We played the East Course at Indooroopilly and although it was still a “tad” warm we had a good roll up and the majority appeared to have a good day. 2 major highlights for the day were – Jim Stanley had a “hole in one” on Blue 5th  and Greg Mackrodt eagled Green 1st.  We are fortunate this year that Marooka Motor Group are sponsoring any “hole-in-ones”    Again it was disappointing that quite a few playeys pulled out at the last  minute or did not turn up. Think of your mates – players don’t like not having a four.  We had a field of 136 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Bill Albury (Wynnum),  “B” Grade  –  Bruce Rich  (Nudgee),  and  “C” Grade  –  Greg Hampson  (Keperra)

Monday 12 February 2018  We made our annual visit to Wantima and despite the excessive heat and the storm during the previous evening, a pleasant day was had by most.  We had a field of 110 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  John Jansen (Pacific),  “B” Grade  –  Peter Rushmore (McLeod) and  “C” Grade Trevor Browne (Redland Bay).  A few players failed to turn up and a few pulled out at the very last minute,  surely most people know, except for illness, what they intend. The Committee are left with a lot of work rearranging at the last minute – noybody  wants to play in a 2 or 3 ball.

Monday 5 February 2018  This week we had our first visit of the year to Gailes and it proved to be a very successful day.  the course was in top condition, the food was. as usual, very good, and some of the scoring was pretty “hot” even “burglerish”.  We had a very good field of 151 and the winners were:  “A” Grade – Bill Donovan (Pacific),  “B” Grade – Warren Tealby  (Keperra) and “C” Grade  –  John Devlin (Gailes). The trend of members not turning up on game-day continues and surely, in the majority of cases members know early enough to let the Committee know – we had a 2 ball yesterday – not good enough.

Monday 29 January 2018  We played at Carbrook and what a great day it proved to be. We had a very good field of 142 players and the course, as usual, was in extremely good condition. Carbrook certainly rates with the best of the course in the South East corner.  The winners were:-  “A” Grade – Mark Rixon (Redland Bay) {2nd week in a row},  “B” Grade – Bill Hogg (Ashgrove)  and “C” Grade – Caji DeSouza  (Virginia).  Recent weeks have seen an increase in the number of people not returning cards – please help the Committee – we have to account for every card at the end of the day.

Monday  22 January 2018  We visited Riverlakes and despite the “hotish” weather a good day was had by most. The course was in very good condition and for some it was very clearly the winner. Considering the conditions, we had a good field of 117 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Dave Trappett (Virginia),  “B” Brade  –  Mark Rixon (Redland Bay)  and “C” Grade  –  Lindsay Sly  (Wolston Park).

Monday 15 January 2018  The second game saw us play at Wynnum and it was a most enjoyable day, The course was good and there was some very good scoring. We has a very good field of 146 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Dale Kurz (Nudgee),  “B” Grade  –  Bob Helm (Keperra)  and “C” Grade  – Paul Johnston  (Gailes).

Monday 8 January 2018  Well we’re back again for another year and despite the heat it was great to see everyone after the Festive break. The course was in good condition and was the winner on the day – not a lot of practise since our last meeting. The field was restricted by the lack of Carts however 125 was not a bad effort.  People wanting Carts should order early and not leave everything to the last minute. The Winners were:-  “A” Grade – Peter Moore (Ashgrove),  “B” Grade  –  Paul Barber  (Redcliffe)  and  “C” Grade  –  Trevor Browne (Redland Bay).  Happy new year and good golfing to all.

Monday 18 December 2017  What a great finish to a very good year: We were treated to a game on the “West” course at Indooroopilly and from all comments received – there were no unhappy “punters”. The “ham rolls” as usual were not to be missed – pity Pacific Catering were not present.. We had a very good Christmas field of 143 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  – Frank Ramsey (Indooroopilly),  “B” Grade  –  Graeme Mouatt (Redland Bay)  and “C” Grade – Ray Millar  (Ashgrove). There will now be a two week break and we will meet up again at Oxley on 8 January 2018. Best wishes to all for the Festive Season

Monday 11 December 2017  We visited Gailes for our penultimate game of the year and it proved to be an excellent day.  The weather was good, the course was good, the food was good and the company was good.  We had our 4Ball Aggregate event a, something different from the usual Stableford – these event are much easier to run with the current Computer system. We had a good field of 140 players and the winners were:-  Paul Barber (Redcliffe) and Jeff Watson (Keperra).   Next week we will play Indooroopilly and then have a two week Christmas break

.Monday 4 December 2017  After a lot of on/off activity we decided to play at Riverlakes – The forecast said “early afternoon Storms” and for the first time in a while it was correct and the end of the field did not finish. We had a good field of 122 and the winners were :- “A” Grade – Graham Mouatt (Redland Bay),  “B” Grade –  Ross Hall (Pacific)   &  “C” Grade  –  Frank Hocart (Bulimba). The last two games of the year look like having very big field hence pull out early if you are not playing – be considerate – think of your fellow members.

Monday 27 November 2017  Our final visit of the year to Pacific and what a day of contrasts it turned out to be.  The course, as usual, was in top condition  and the refreshment side, as usual was terribly disappointing. Surely a club of Pacific’s status cannot afford to let this situation continue. The saving grace is that there are a number of alternatives available. Is it possible that the last visit of our Vets to this course could coincide with the highest number ever – yes we had 160 players. We had 2 competitions and the winners were:-  1,2,3, Waltz  –  Paul Robertson, Bill Goodbun,  Ted Goodbun and Paul Lillis and S/Stab winners:-  “A” grade – Kerry Cooper (Redland Bay),  “B” grade – Trevor Mahoney  and “C” Grade  –  John Ward  (Ashgrove)

Monday 20 November 2017  We visited Keperra and whilst there were a few problems, the majority of members had a good day. Due to the rain, the course did play fairly long and hence there were some very average scores in the lower grades. We had a disappointing field of 108 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Brian Brown (Bribie),  Laurie Parr (Pacific)  and Greg Hampson (Keperra)n

Monday 13 November 2017   Our final visit of the year to Oxley and a good day was had by most. The course was much improved on our last visit and there was some very good scoring. We had a good field of 132 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade –  Peter Brennan (Ashgrove), “B” Grade  –  Paul Evans (Keperra)  and “C” Grade  –  Michael McGregor  (Virginia).  A reminder on Rules – You are not permitted to practise on the course prior to playing  –  i.e. 18th at Oxley

Please start reading the Website and advise your “Mates” to do likewise – a lot of members are unaware of what is happening and current rules as to how we operate

Monday 6 November 2017   What a great day and what a pleasure to be back at Carbrook. Every time we visit Carbrook it gets better and it must now rate very highly in the “pecking order” of Queensland courses. We had a good field of 129 and the winners were:- “A” Grade – Des Beinke  (Hope Island),  “B” Grade  –  Bob Helm (Brisbane)  and  “C” Grade  –  Ray Miller (Ashgrove).  The Match Play finals were also completed and congratulations to our winners:- Tony Squires (Redland Bay),  Mario Rey-Conde (Brisbane)  and Bruce Rich (Nudgee). Further congratulations to Bill English (Oxley) who eagled the 3rd.

Monday 30 October 2017  Great to be back on the golf course once again although a few “Fairweathers” did not make it – WHY. The course proved to be a good challenge and only 2 players achieved 40 pts. The Match  Play Finals will be played next week and we wish all participants a successful day. We had a field of 131 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade –  Ian Argent (Pacific),  “B” Grade  –  Dave Elliott (Nudgee) and “C” Grade  –  Ray Miller  (Ashgrove).

Monday  9 October 2017  Our second trip to McLeod for the year and as usual the course was in top condition and hence a good challenge. The usual Cart problem occurred and hence the field was a little down.  Match Play first round commenced and it was very disappointing that some players pulled out at the last minute and one did not even turn up. Running this group is not an easy job but it is near impossible if members do not read the Website. It is there to make every ones life a bit easier. We had a field of 127 and the winners were’;-  “A” Grade — Bob Ellsworth-Turner  (Oxley),  “B” Grade  – Graham Mouatt  (Redland Bay) and  “C” Grade  –  Bill Goodbun  (Colonial).

Monday  2 October 2017  Well what is it about Gainsborough Greens – every time we plan a visit it rains. Thankfully this time we got there and played and it was a most enjoyable outing – we had a 5 minute burst of rain. The course was a good challenge and the shot-gun start, coupled with “lunch” gave everyone a chance to socialise – something that doesn’t happen in our group. A few “carpark” members found their way into the clubhouse. We had a good field of 103 members and the winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Jim Chippendale (Arundell Hills),  “B” Grade  –  Graham Spence  (Pacific),  “C” Grade  –  Trevor Downes  (Pacific)

Monday 25 September 2017  Our first ever trip to the “Hills” proved to be a most entertaining and challenging day and  with only a few exceptions, most want to return and have STATED they will be better next time round – I wonder:  Maybe we should put some players off the “Back Tees”. Anyway it was pleasing to have a 100+ players and should we return I’m sure there will be a few extra “goodies” in store. Tas Henry will be keen to return – he had a “Hole in One”  at the 16th.  The winners were:  “A” Grade  –  Greg Coman (Keperra),  “B” Grade  –  Alan Duke  (Brisbane)  and “C” Grade – Lionel Larman (Nudgee).  PLEASE REMEMBER NEXT WEEK IS A 7:30 A.M. REGISTER FOR AN 8:00 A.M. SHOT GUN START  –  DON’T BE LATE.

Monday 18 September 2017  A very enjoyable day at Ashgrove, the course was, as always, a good test and the “Guinness Pies” were very palatable. The numbers were reasonable, although the turn out from local members was disappointing, there were a few members also who could not get Carts. The winners were;-   “A” Grade – Brian Howell (Keperrs), “B” Grade – Neil Phillips (Ashgrove) and “C” Grade – Ray Clark (Pacific).

Monday 11 September 2017  A small dedicated group went to City (Toowoomba) and had a really good day. The course, as usual, was the winner and the weather added to the day. For those that don’t travel – you really do miss some very challenging courses – maybe that is the problem. The winners were:- “A” Grade – Dave Foster (Pacific) and “B” Grade – Paul Lillis (Wantima). We had a field of 42 players

Monday 4 September 2017   We visited Virginia and had a most enjoyable day. It was also the final day for the Club Championships. The course has been better however it was the same for all and there were a few good scores. The BBQ was well received although disappointing that more members did not partake – remember we must support all clubs when we visit. We had a good field of 138 players and the winners were: “A” Grade – Andrew Davies (Carbrook),  “B” Grade – Bruce Rich (Nudgee) and “C Grade – Rod Stower (Keperra). It was also disappointing that 4 members did not turn up to play – one a figure head of our Vets.  The next two games we have very disappointing fields – please think about supporting all Clubs we visit – we cannot visit Indro and the likes every week.

Monday 28 August 2017  Our annual trip to North Lakes went well, the course, as usual, was the winner, and was in very good condition. Always nice to have a “shot gun” start as it gives  all members a chance to meet up. The numbers were a bit down on previous years but nevertheless reasonably good. The Winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Larry McCabe  (Keperra),  “B” Grade  –  Graham Mouatt  (Redland Bay),  “C”  Grade  –  Peter Eckett (Indooroopilly).   Next week at Virginia we will be staging the 2nd round of our championships and hence we have quite a good field – If your name is down to play and you don’t intend to play – PLEASE WITHDRAW EARLY.

Monday 21 August 2017  As usual a great day at Redcliffe,  the course was in good condition and a good challenge, mastered only by a few. Play was slow, Captain’s group did not set a great example, however it was a stroke event (only one left in 2017). We had a good field of 132 and the winners were: “A” Grade –  Nev Kenzler (Headlands),  “B” Grade  –  Peter Rushmore (McLeod)  and  “C” Grade –  Ray Clark (Pacific). Next week we are at North Lakes and Players are reminded that we register at 8:00 a.m.  –  don’t be late  –  PLEASE

Monday 14 August 2017  A most enjoyable day and a good substitute for Bribie Island, The course set-up was not what we required and hence far too many golf balls were handed out – BDVGA now bankrupt. Congratulations to Vic Hildebrand who had a hole-in-one at the 5th. We had a good field of 131 and the winners were:- “A”  Grade – John Jansen (Pacific),  “B” Grade  –  Derek Smith (Wolston Park)  and “C” Grade – Merv Maguire (Virginia). Next week we commence our Championships and the following week we go to North Lakes hence we ask that you make a special effort to REFRAIN from withdrawing at the last minute

Monday 7 August 2017  Another very enjoyable day, this time at Gailes. We had a good field of 139, the course was in top condition, and the food and refreshments up to the “norm” for Gailes.  We had the normal high number of late withdrawals which makes it very hard to arrange a balanced field. Yes I know there are genuine withdrawals – however I guess it “might” have rained.  The winners were:-  “A” Grade – Max Smith (Gailes),  “B” Grade  –  Ted Goodbun  (Rosewood)  and  Tony Marsland  (Ashgrove)

Monday 31 July 2017   Following a very “foggy”  start everything turned out pretty good at Pacific and we had a few good “Waltzers”. The course was in good condition and in the end proved to be the winner. We had a field of 132 (5 late withdrawals) and the winners were:- Waltz – Mark West-Newman, John Ward (P), Tony Lovelock and Bill Muller.  “A” Grade – Tas Henry (Nudgee),  “B” Grade  –  John Nenke (Pacific) and “C” Grade –  Doug Curtis (Pacific). The individual highlight was an eagle on the 2nd by Jim Stanley (Redland Bay) – well done Jim.

Monday 24 July 2017  A top day at Indooroopilly where we played the Captain’s Course (Green/Gold).  The course was in good condition and, checking the scores, it was a good challenge. It was a reasonably good field (138), the weather was very pleasant and the food, as always, very enjoyable. Pleasing to report we had not too many last minute withdrawals and all that should have did turn up to play. The Winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Peter Jager (Pacific),  “B” Grade  –  Peter Rushmore  (McLeod),  “C” Grade  –  Alan Deeth  –  (Pacidic)

Monday 17 July 2017  A very enjoyable day at Riverlakes. Despite the weekend rain, the course was in good order and a very good challenge. Again the field (107) was disappointing, the usual number of late withdrawals and a few just did not turn up.  Paul Murray had another eagle and congratulations are due, he is now comfortably our lowest handicap member (2). The winners were;-  “A” Grade  –  Frank Ramsey (Indooroopilly),  “B” Grade  –  Jim Coughlin  (Keperra)  and  Alan Deeth  (Pacific).

Monday 10 July 2017  A very pleasant day at Keperra although the numbers were very disappointing – 20 players pulled out from Thursday until game time – nowhere near good enough.  It was sad to see the course not up to the expected standard and it is hoped that when we return later in the year there will be a big improvement. Highlights of the day obviously belong to Paul Murray, Paul won “A” Grade with 38 pts (ocb) however he was out in 13 pts and back in 25 – yes 5 under par – Well done.  Just as an aside Paul also eagled the 15th (24th) hole.  The other winners were:- “B” Grade  –  Bob Ganning (Ashgrove) and “C”  Grade  –  Richard McAdam (Nudgee).  We had a field of 113 players.

Monday 3 July 2017  After a very cold start, everything turned out really well at Wynnum and I think everyone enjoyed themselves. The course was in good condition, the “halfway house”  was up to the usual high standard.  We had a good field of 145 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade –   Bill Donovan (Pacific),  “B” Grade – Ken Bracegirdle (Redland Bay) and “C” Grade –  Alan Wilkie (Ashgrove)

Next Game (s):  Keperra – 10 July 2017,  Riverlakes  –  17 July 2017.   Indooroopilly  –  24 July 2017

Monday 26 June 2017  A lovely day at Caboolture, the weather was “beaut”, the course as usual was a challenge and the greens a “tad” on the quick side. Some players “suck back” their irons – the scribe managed it with his putter on the 11th. It was disappointing that the steak burgers were off the menu however the Chinese Meals were very appetising and a little different from the norm. As has been the case recently, our numbers are very down on the last few years and this is disappointing. We are about to commence planning for next year, so if you have any ideas please advise the Captain a.s.a.p.  Yesterday we had a field of 100 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Peter Jager (Pacific),  “B” Grade  –  Bob Muir  (Redland Bay)  and “C” Grade  –  Paul Robertson (Pacific)

Monday  19 June 2017  Great to get back to golf after our week off due to last week’s weather. We visited Oxley and what a change since out last outing, the course was in top condition and hence the challenge was beyond most. The weather was also very kind and the food and refreshments very acceptable. One of the day’s highlights was an eagle on the 7th by “local boy” Paul Murray who also won “A” Grade, “B” Grade winner was George  Emerson (Nudgee) and “C” Grade winner – Peter Fraser (Gailes).

Monday 5 June 2017  Our first visit to Carbrook since the big flood and what a surprise it was, the course was in surprisingly good condition and the greens, despite the looks, would be hard to beat anywhere.. We had a good field of 129  players and the weather was perfect. The winners were:-  “A” Grade – Dave Collins (Wynnum),  “B” Grade  –  John Godwin (Nudgee)  and “C” Grade  –  John Devlin  (Gailes).

Next week is a visit to Gainsborough Greens and we register at 8.00 a.m. – Please be on time and allow a few extra minutes to find your way, there have been road changes since our last visit.

Monday 29 May 2017  Another very enjoyable day, this time spent at Nudgee. The weather was fine and the course was in top condition and hence no excuse for not scoring well.  As per last week, it was again very disappointing to have so many last minute withdrawals, I accept that we will always have a few illnesses but not the current trend. Please pull out early if you are not playing, please check if your name is listed, please don’t put names down unless you know the player(s) is available.  Yesterday’s winners were:-  “A” Grade – Dale Kurz (Nudgee),  “B” Grade – Peter Jager (Pacific)  and  Stavros Panagaris (Pacific)

Monday 22 May 2017  We had a really great day at Woodford although the number of last minute cancellations was , to say the least – disappointing, The course was in top condition, the food was great and once the fog lifted the weather was great. We will soon be planning for next year  and it would be nice to think that we can keep the current venues and not have to cram everything into the “inner” city  Yesterday’s winners were:-  “A” Grade  –  Michael Jager (Pacific),  “B” Grade –  David Elliott (Nudgee)  and “C” Grade –  Warren Tealby (Ashgrove)

Monday 15 May 2017   From all reports a very enjoyable day at Bribie was had by one and all. The weather was good and the course, as usual, was in good condition and in the end, the winner over most “punters”, I’m pleased to say we will be back again this year and that will cheer up those that missed out this time.  We had a very good field of 131 players and congratulations to Neil Glenwright who eagled the 5th hole.  The winners were:-  “A” Grade –  Brian Brown (Bribie Is)  {Welcome Back},  “B” Grade  – Jim Coughlin (Keperra) and “C” Grade –  John Devlin  (Gailes)

Monday 8 May 2017  Another very enjoyable day at Ashgrove and for those that did not attend you really missed out. The weather threatened to spoil the day but fortunately held off until we finished. The course was in very good condition, the food was very palatable  the atmosphere was good so what more do we need.  We had a field of 106 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Tony Lenac (Ashgrove),  “B” Grade – Milo Milosevic (Ashgrove) and “C” Grade – Jim Coughlin (Keperra)

Monday 24 April 2017  A most enjoyable day at Indooroopilly where we played the East Course, The course was in good condition and hence a fair challenge. The weather was also good except for a brief downpour at the end of our field. We had a good field of 142 players and the winners were:- “A” Grade – Ralph Clarke (Pacific),  “B” Grade – Les Appoloni (Redland Bay  and “C” Grade – Caji DeSouza (Virginia).  A highlight for one player was an eagle on the 10th by Michael Jager – not witnessed by the opposition – Well done Michael

Monday 10 April 2016  After all the concerns about the weather and course condition we visited the Glades and it proved to be a well worthwhile outing, yes there were no bunkers and a few wet spots, but all in all it proved to be a good golf challenge.. We had a good field of 132 players and feedback was all good. The winners were: “A” Grade – Tony Squires (Redland Bay),  “B” Grade – Rob O’Doherty (Pacific) and  “C” Grade  –  Bruce Rich (Nudgee).

Next week we celebrate Easter so no golf

Monday 3 April 2016  A day that surprised, it is unlikely that many members expected to play  on such a dry course after the recent rains. The course was in really good condition, the food as usual was great and also there were no Cart problems. In future if you are hiring a Cart please do so early in the week and there will be no problems. We had an extremely good field of 143 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Andrew Davies (Carbrook),  “B” Grade – Peter Rushmore (McLeod)  and  Bob Robertson (Ashgrove).

Please note next week’s game at the Glades is a shot gun start – please be there no later than 8.00 to register

Next Game (s):  The Glades – 10 April 2017,  Indooroopilly East – 24 Aepril 2017, Ashgrove – 8 May 2016

Monday 27 March 2017  What a day, on arrival at Middle Ridge, visabillity was not much more than 50m, however that soon cleared and hence the start of a very enjoyable day. It is great to see  “The Ridge” back to it’s former self and obviously now back to it’s ranking as one of Queenslands top courses. The course was certainly the winner with 36 pts the best on offer. I’ll be surprised if we don’t have a lot more players when next we visit. One of the highlights was an eagle on the 4th by Paul Shaw. We had a field of 73 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Graham Mouatt (Redland Bay)  and “B” Grade –  Jeff Duce (Brisbane).

Monday 20 March 2017  A day with a difference at Pacific, the weather was cool and nearly wintery but except for a brief shower it was an enjoyable day. The course was in good order, except for the bunkers, hopefully sometime this can be rectified. There was also a problem with the bar and food  arrangements and the main loser would have been the club. Considering the forecast we had a very good field of 137 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Bob Ellswood-Turner (Oxley),  “B” Grade  –  Paul Lillis (Wantima) and “C” Grade – John Crandell (Ashgrove).

Our Annual General Meeting was held at the Completion of play and reports all spoke of a very successful year. The committee were re-elected with one change – Vic Hildebrand resigned and was replaced by Brian Kearney.

Next Game (s)     Middle Ridge – 27 March 2017,  McLeod – 3 April 2017, The Glades – 10 April 2017

Monday 13 March 2017  A most enjoyable day at Wantima, the course continues to improve and the weather, for a change, was pleasantly cool. It is surprising that not more members come to this venue as it is quite a challenge – perhaps too hard. We had a very pleasant BBQ at halfway and hence all in all, a very good day. Neil Glenwright had an eagle at the 7th. We had a field of 116 players and the winners were:  “A” Grade – Neil Glenwright (Oxley), “B” Grade – Jeff Falvey (Rosewood) and “C” Grade – Merv Maguire (Virginia). Next week we play at Pacific and at the completion of play we will have  our Annual General Meeting.

Next Game (s)     Pacific – 20 March 2017, Middle Ridge – 27 March 2017,  McLeod – 3 April 2017

Monday 6 March 2017  We had a very good day yesterday (6/3/17) at Virginia, the course is in great need of rain however there were still a few vey good scores. There is still a great reluctance to “call up” and this really does slow up play considerably – how many players reached the 3rd & 9th yesterday – how many groups “called up”.  We had a good field of 140 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Neil Glenwright (Oxley),  “B” Grade – Peter Deeth (Wantima)  and “C” Grade – Robert Blinco (McLeod).

Monday 27 February 2017   A most enjoyable day at Redcliffe, the weather was much cooler and the threatened Storms were virtually avoided. The course as always was in top condition and hence a very good test. We tried out a new system. courtesy of Redcliffe, and it was well received and definetly speeded up the day- thank you Kerry and your team.  The speed of play left a lot to be desired – the 2nd group at one stage were close to three holes behind and hence affected everyone else..  We had a good field of 130 players and the winners were: “A” Grade – Noel Timmins (Windaroo),  “B” Grade – Greg Hampson (Keperra)  and  “C” Grade – Tony Steel  (Bribie Island)

Monday 20 February 2017  A most enjoyable day at Gailes, the weather was very kind and the course was in good condition even though the greens could have done with a cut, The speed of play was steady with no really slow groups. Highlight of day was a “Senior Moment” by a committee member when he tee’d off the red markers. We had a field of 139 players and the winners were: “A” Grade – John Cikuts (Jindalee),  “B” Grade – Trevor Browne (Redland Bay) and “C” Grade – Mike McDonnell (Wynnum).

Monday 13 February 2017  From all reports a very hot day at Keperra (West) coupled with some very hot scoring. It was very pleasing that we managed a field of 105 players. Hopefully the weather will ease off and we can look forward to more pleasant golfing.  The winners were “A” Grade – Paul Hine (Pacific),  “B” Grade –  Peter Deeth  (Wantima)  and  “C” Grade  –  Keith Mapp  (Keperra)

Next Game (s)     Gailes – 20 February 2017,  Redcliffe  –  27 February 2017,  Virginia – 6 March 2017

Monday 6 February 2017  Another “Hot One” but never-the-less an enjoyable visit to Carbrook, this course continues to improve and is now surely one of the best in this area. We had a field of 143 which is a record for Carbrook and hence everyone was very happy.  Even though the weather was more than warm – the speed of play was good and hopefully this can continue. It would also be nice if all groups considered calling up on the longer par 3’s. The winners were:- “A” Grade – Ralph Clarke (Pacific),  “B” Grade – Neil Phillips (Ashgrove) and “C” Grade – John Gallagher (Pacific).

Next Game (s)     Keperra Old – 13 February 2017, Gailes – 20 February 2017,  Redcliffe  –  27 February 2017

Monday 30 January 2017  We made an earlier than usual visit to Caboolture and although it was a “warm one” the majority of players enjoyed themselves. The course was in good condition and hence a fair challenge and the speed of play was not too bad.  We had a record field for Caboolture of 133 and they were more than pleased – the “Steak Burgers” of course were very popular. Four players pulled out at the last minute – again very disappointing – only one seemed genuine.  The winners were:-  “A” Grade – Nez Kenzler (Ashgrove”,  “B” Grade – Col Shaw (Ashgrove)  and “C” Grade – Richard Debnam (Brisbane).

Monday 23 January 2017   We had our first visit of the year to Indooroopilly and a very enjoyable day it was, the weather was very kind for most of the day and hence relief from the recent hot spell. We played the river course, a favourite of many and there was some very hot scoring. It is a concern that some of the later groups are becoming very tardy with there speed of play and this must be addressed, 5 hours is not acceptable – especially if all are in a cart.  We had a good field of 144 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – John Garrard (Gailes),  “B” Grade –  David Craig (Maleny)  and  “C” Grade –  John Gallagher (Pacific)

Monday 16 January 2017  We visited Wynnum and what a top day it was, despite the storm the previous evening, the course was in good condition and hence a fair challenge for all. The main news was the very large field – it is many years since we had 159 players at Wynnum and I know the Club was very pleased. Congratulations to Al Bignell who had an eagle on the 7th. Pleased to report only one player failed to attend.  The winners were:-  “A” Grade – Graham Mouatt  (Redland Bay),  “B”  Grade  –  Rob O’Doherty  (Pacific)  and “C” Grade  –  Jeff Watson (Keperra)

Monday  9 January 2016   We visited Oxley for the start of the 2017 season and it was great to see everyone after a three week layoff.  The course was longish due to the recent rains but nevertheless a fair challenge. It was a disappointing start to the year with four players pulling out on the morning.  Despite that we had a good field of 143 players and the winners were:  Dave Foster (Pacific),  Gary Scott (Ashgrove)  and  Ian Seib (Woodford). Congratulations to Greg Carey who eagled the 7th hole.  Payment of Subscriptions went well and there will be another chance this week at Wynnum.

Monday 19 December 2016  We finished off our season with a very colourful and pleasant day at Riverlakes. We had a good field of 128, the course was in good condition and most players in a very jovial mood. Pleased to advise that this season we have had our biggest ever “Fields” over 6000 for the year. The winners were: “A” Grade  –  Adrian McShane (Carbrook),  “B” Grade –  John Godwin (Nudgee)  and  “C” Grade  –  Les Apollini (Redland Bay)

Monday 12 December 2016  We visited Indooroopilly and had our Annual 4 Ball Aggregate Championship Event. The weather was good, the course was good, altho the greens had recently been cored and there was some very good scoring. We had a very good field of 149 and the winning pair were John Godwin and Bob Leach (Nudgee). John Cikuts had an eagle at the 18 th  –  Well done John.  The weekly scanning is improving and if members realised that we are not a home-based club and hence don’t have their speed and had more patience all is not too bad. An area that would help would be if cards were filled out more neatly and properly – it’s not hard.

Monday 5 December 2016   We visited Gailes and, despite the warmish weather, a good day was had by most  –  the “scribe’ had to work hard on restoring his “liquid levels’ but did get there eventually.  Considering the Saturday storm, the course was in pretty good condition and hence there was some good scoring. We had a slightly disappointing field of 132 , considering at one stage we had over 170 – Again we plead – if you are not playing please call off early and allow the committee time to adjust the field.. The winners were:- “A” Grade – Dave Foster (Pacific),  “B” Grade  –  Gavin Ponting (Keperra)  and “C” Grade  –  John Devlin (Gailes).  Next week will be a fourball event – just mark your card as for the normal Stableford Event

Monday 28 November 2016  We visited McLeod yesterday and although the weather was warmish, it was a good day and seemingly enjoyed by most. The course is always a good challenge and although the greens were slow, they were very true. We had a field of 138 players and the winners were:- “A” Grade – Neil Glenwright (Oxley),  “B” Grade – Keith Edgar (Keperra)  and “C” Grade  –  Bruce Rich (Nudgee).

Monday 21 November 2016  We played at Pacific and the day proved to be most enjoyable. We had a heavily sponsored BBQ, a novelty team event, and a sponsorship by Queenslanders Credit Union  – all good.  The course was in top condition and enjoyed by most. The team event was a sample of what can be achieved once we get our scanning up to par – the beauty is we, as players, just need to enter our Stab. score and the computer does the rest, including our handicap adjustments, We had a field of 143 players and the winners were: Team Event  –  Dave Trappett, Rod Lee, Graham Shardlow and Derek Smith,  “A” Grade – John Gailer,  “B” Grade – Bob Leach  and “C” Grade – David Gee Kee.    Other highlights were:- Trevor Grant had an eagle at 15th and Ken Armour a HIO at the 13th.

Monday 14 November 2016  We played at Oxley and, although the course was not at it’s best, a good day was had by most and there were some very good scores.  It is still disappointing, the number of players who add their name(s) to the timesheet each week and then withdraw near the time – Oxley sheet had (at one stage) 174 listed yet only 145 played – we are soon going to start monitoring this problem and hence rectify it.  We had a field of 145 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Ian McGilvray (Wynnum),  “B” Grade – John Nenke (Pacific)  and “C” Grade –  Paul Carius (Pacific)

Monday  7 November 2016   We had our final game “up North” for the year when we visited Keperra and it threatened to be a “hot one”. The course was in good condition and there was some good scoring and one “lucky Oirish” score.  We had a disappointing field of 125 – the usual case of players rushing to put their names down and then pulling out during the last week or the last minute. Today’s highlight – Trevor Grant had an eagle at the 11th – well done Trev.  The winners were:-  “A” Grade –  Charles Jackson  (Gailes),  “B” Grade –  Laurie Gould  (Redland Bay)  and “C” Grade – Ray Clark  (Pacific).  The next few weeks we are likely to have very big fields so PLEASE, if you’re not a definite starter – Don’t put your name on the Sheet – PLEASE.

Monday 31 October 2016  We played at Wynnum and it was another good day, the course was in good order, the weather stayed dry, and the food and drinks were good. The field was a little disappointing with quite a number of late withdrawals. We had a field of 132 and the winners were:- “A” Grade – Dale Kurz (Nudgee),  “B” Grade –  John Noble (Maleney)  and  “C” Grade – Leigh Richardson (Colonial).  Scanning continues each week and bit by bit everything is improving – some members/markers could (should) take a little more care of their cards and this would help considerably.

Monday 24 October 2016  We visited Carbrook and what a great day it was. Carbrook continues to improve with every visit and it is surely now one of the best clubs in the South East. It was also very pleasing that the timesheet went in with 141 spots and 141 turned up to play. Congratulations to Milo Milosevic who had a “hole-in-one” at the 7th. We had a very good field of 141 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Paul Murray (Oxley),  “B” Grade – Ron Cervetto (Ashgrove)  and “C” Grade – Alan Wilkie (Ashgrove).

Monday 17 October 2016  We had our second game of the year at the Glades and it was a really top day altho the course was an easy winner.  Gold tees were very suitable for our group however I think the pin placements caused a few problems.  Thanks to a few dedicated members we ended up with a field of 138 and hence many thanks to the Visitors who helped us out.  The food system was much better and certainly well received. The next few weeks the timesheets are reasonably full – please make sure you cry-off early if you do not intend to play.  The winners at the Glades were:-  “A” Grade – Greg Coman (Keperra),  “B” Grade – Ian McGilvray (Wynnum)  and “C” Grade – Peter Eckett (Indooroopilly)

Monday 10 October 2016  We had a change of venue and visited Pacific, the weather was fine, the course was,  as usual, a good challenge and I think most players went away happy. We had a very good field of 148 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Ian Argent (Pacific),  “B” Grade – Brian Levitt (Gailes) and “C” Grade – Jim Munro (Pacific).    The one very disappointing aspect of the day was the Number of members who put their names down to play at the Glades and then at the last minute pulled out.  If we are to continue going to these venues we must have commitment – as is often said – think of your fellow members – you have let them down badly and we are faced with a financial loss or ask the faithful to pay extra.

Monday 26 September 2016  We visited Redcliffe and from all reports a great day was had by most, our Treasurer certainly enjoyed himself – 43 pts coming home in level par!!!  As usual we had a few last minute “no-shows” and hence had 2 two balls on the course – one of which contained a new member having his first game. Surely we can do better.  We had a field of 134 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Andrew Davies (Carbrook),  “B” Grade – Keith Edgar (Keperra)  and  “C” Grade – Trevor Browne (Redland Bay).  Please note the fixture change for the 10 October – we are now going to Pacific in lieu of Indooroopilly.

Monday 19 September 2016   We visited Caboolture and,  whilst a few “Fairweathers” pulled out, the day was a most enjoyable one, and the “SteakBurgers” were as always very appetizing. We had a field of 111 and the winners were:  “A” Grade – John Garrard (Gailes),  “B” Grade – Bob Helm (Brisbane)  and  “C” Grade – Jeff King (Ashgrove).

Monday 12 September 2016  We had our annual visit to City, Toowoomba, and for those that made the trip I think it proved to be a most challenging day. There have been a few changes to the course and whilst they are a big improvement, it has not made things any easier.. The trip has also improved and it’s great to report there are not now all the “road works” that we used to have  –  think about trying it next year  –  we will be returning. Pleased to say we only had one (1) last minute withdrawal and he had a “Medical Certificate”.      The winners were “A” Grade – Paul Hine  (Pacific) and “B” Grade – Jeff King  (Ashgrove).

Monday 5 September 2016 We visited Virginia and the day proved to be a most enjoyable one for the majority of players, and it was pleasing to note that the course was back to its original standard. Food was also very acceptable. It was a little disappointing that a lot of players left it to the last minute to pull out – there appears to be a rush at the weekend prior to put names down whether players are in or out. If you are not playing please don’t leave to the last minute. When we have last minute cancellations it also means changes to the time sheet and hence players get moved in and out of groups – Sorry

We had quite a good field of 131 and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Gary Lynch (Redcliffe),  “B” Grade – John Nenke (Pacific)  and “C” Grade – Dan Bricknell (Pacific)
Monday 29 August 2016   We visited Ashgrove and despite the disappointing field we had a very good day with a few variations to the norm – the 13th was from a more backward tee and the 17th was a totally different “beast” from the “tiger tee”. Steve Panagaris is certainly a fan of the 17th – he had his first Hole-in-Onewell done Stavros. The course was in good nic and the food as always was very palatable.  We had a field of 96 and the winners were:- “A” Grade  –  Nev Kenzler (Ashgrove),  “B” Grade  –  Bob Gannon (Ashgrove)  and Greg Mackrodt (Howlong)
Monday 22 August 2016  –  We made a visit to Nudgee and the day went well and the Members appeared to enjoy themselves. The course was in “fair nic” and proved to be a good test for most players.  We congratulate Pat Casey on having a hole-in-one on the 14th and Gary Scott who had an eagle on the 6th.  The Match Play Finals were completed and congratulations to our Winners:-  Paul Murray,  David Elliott and John Gallagher.
We had a very good field of 148  and todays winners were “A” Grade – Peter Cook,  “B” Grade  –  Phil DoRozario  and  “C” Grade Jim Coughlin.
Monday (15 August 2016) – We visited North Lakes and as always it was a great day and of course, in the majority of cases, the course was the winner. The food system was very simple and successful and perhaps should be adopted by other clubs when we have a “shot gun” start. It was of course very disappointing that so many members leave instantly after their game and make no effort to support the “host” club . We get a good deal from Clubs and hence I feel it is our duty to support them all as best we can.
Delighted to advise, although I don’t know how, Graham Mouatt had an eagle on 4th hole.
We had a fair field of 133 players and the winners were:-  “A” Grade – Ian Wynne (Brisbane),  “B” Grade – Brian Kearney (Pacific) and “C” Grade – Richard Debnam (Brisbane).
Next week we will have the finals of the Match Play Championships and we wish all players the best of luck  –  well done.

Monday (8 August 2016) – We visited Gailes and the Course again proved to be the winner as there were not many great scores recorded.  Match Play rounds are now through to the finals and we wish all players the very best of luck. Next week we are off to North Lakes and we ask all players to be there no later than 8.00 a.m.  We  had a good field of 144 players and the winners were:  “A” Grade – Geoff Petler (WynnumJ), “B” Grade – Pat Casey (Keperra) and “C” Grade – Paul Lillis (Wantima)
